It's me. Hi
![]()
|
{Time Set: In a lull in military activity some time in the VERY near future - basically just a time without a major conflict going on} It had taken many hours of debate within the halls of Freedom House - the centre of government for The Republic of the Cloud Peoples. Over these many hours, the Prime Minister (Edward Hertz) had been persuaded to change his long held ideals on the nation's military and stance of the worldwide state of affairs. In one final push of debating, the PM and his close colleagues - the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Economics, and a few others had been beaten (metaphorically) into submission. It had not made Hertz's day. "Mr. Gràhem". He sighed, "it looks like you'll have to make the preparations. I guess it may be for the best, but whether we like it or not, that's democracy. Get to it immediately please". "Yes sir" was the Minister of Defence's reply. (OOC: Meanwhile the rest of the government and the citizens breathed a sigh of relief. Would the PM finally think about the people for once??:P) He returned to his office and began to write:
[OOC: I basically just copied this from the last thread - ignore the original and pretend I never started it ![]() I'm looking for response (in a letter form if possible) within the next 3 days. I shall then outline the information about the venue, travel to the venue, and what can be expected. Then in about 5 or so days, the Summit will start. If you do not get a reply in before it starts we can imagine you have and go from there] |

Archbishop Inbelial looks at Macina. "How unprofessional, Ms. Macina. If I may just ask: why are thou here? Last time I was informed: Ankshara had left the Tritogenis Cooperation. Is thine position not defunct?" |

Lord Wiegand's eyes nearly twitch, but he controls himself and jerks his head to look at the Anksharans. "If I'm imperialist for not wanting a regional power to have nuclear weapons because great powers favour them, then so be it. Regional powers would use it against small powers without nukes or the protection of great powers. And, again, banning nuclear weapons and then immediately disarming all of them is the dumbest idea since Ankshara declared war on a nuclear power with antimatter weapons and the like. Who's to say EVERYONE will do that? Those that don't do it might start nuclear wars against those who do. Its a bad idea and assumes everyone is a good person - and, mind you, as leader of Great Scourge I can tell you there are bad people here and bad people elsewhere. When it comes to nuclear weapons, assuming good faith is a bad idea." Hanke claps five times to show his agreement. |

"You're beautifully naive," dryly comments Hanke. "If us humans began a nuclear war and managed to use nukes on all the land, we'd kill all humans most likely and lots of animals and plants - but ultimately, the planet would survive and life would flourish again. In fact it would flourish more than it had without our activity. If you want to prevent nuclear war, having large states with many enemies who do wish to do so out of good faith disarm their arsenals, you're asking for trouble. Even if everyone went and disarmed, well, then we'd just fight with different weapons and kill even more people." [http://smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=1852#comic] |

The Elektronisch, now on top of the meeting table and enabled, shows hundreds of tiny red dots all over the UA. There seems to be a lack of dots in Yusukistan. "This is all the nucelar bombs used ever in the Universal Allegiance." |

It's me. Hi
![]()

Sorry a bit late to this...may as well get it finished. Hertz clears his throat "If we can't come to an agreement in the fashion of banning or abolishing WMDs, how about we just make it difficult to acquire them? I'm sure increasing the market cost of resources acquired, initiating a tax or levee, or something similar may discourage nations from developing these weapons. Poorer nations will not be able to afford it, richer nations will either then see that it is not financially efficient to run them, or will become unpopular with their supporters or backers. Similarly richer nations will then have no need to use them on poorer nations, and will risk financial collapse when used on richer nations, and if we find we come across a nuke-rogue nation, then i'm sure an international effort could be made to remove said nation." He smiles an overly smug smile and waits for the response. |

Gutenviller, Hanke, and Lord Wiegand all look somewhat disappointed. "And how do you expect to seperate the use of uranium for peaceful purposes, and for nuclear purposes? Even more so, what of plutonium? And, I swear, if there's an even higher tariff on deuterium and tritium imports than I will not be at all happy," states Sir Simin. "Further, by keeping poor nations from this material, you're permanently denying them huge swathes of technology and keeping them poor - though, not that I expected better from you, m'lud," she jabs. "Sure, we could go on a case-by-case basis and impose limits on nations we believe may create nuclear weapons - but what then? Those nations that still have nuclear weapons now have that much less deterrent to using them! They could even lend them to other nations! Further, if you expect the market to care that a huge swathe of land has become uninhabitable and millions have died, well, look at your own nation, or Kanosus." She pauses, and drinks some water. "An assumption further that we could get rid of nuclear rogue states without any risk of collateral is further telling of a very rose tinted view of international politics. In this case, I'd suggest - and I believe even Hanke agrees, and he's a fervent worshipper of Jingo," she jabs once more - the more she speaks, the ruder she gets, "Sanctions and other diplomatic or economic approaches. Removing a nation implies military action, and that's plain dangerous." "Now, I've focused mainly on nuclear weapons because they're a larger threat. Chemical weapons and biological weapons aren't particularly as dangerous." |
