It's me. Hi

Background Christmas Day: "Are you sure this can be done?" "Of course. We have substantial military power, the government can't do anything about us" Gràhem stared at the person next to him, another military general, male, of 59 years old. "I am tired of seeing our glorious republic crumble and become soft. Just look at the Western Province - full of leftist loonies giving blight to our nation's great name" "Well if you are sure, I'll be ready to put things in to motion. We will follow you to a greater nation" "Good. I am glad you see the light of our cause. Have a good Christmas" Today: Gràhem had been doing behind the scenes deals, and committing secret actions with the military for years. He was now ready to pull all his favours, and put all his plans in to action. All he needed to do was send a simple message to the number written on the piece of paper in front of him. He took a deep breath and sent it. A few minutes later, a military display running in the Capital's Central Park suddenly stopped at the command of their leader. With another command, the 100 strong group, and 2 accompanying tank, much to the surprise of the startled onlookers turned and headed for the park entrance, heading for the main Government Offices 1200 metres down the street. Shortly, with minimal opposition, the military regiment stormed the buildings taking control. Government officials, members of parliament, and Parliament guards were detained. Within a few more minutes helicopters could be seen and heard over the capital, and shockingly to the citizens, military personnel began to 'rain' from the skies. The first targets were the police stations, which were taken with little effort. The police headquarters, however, recognized what was happening. Commanding Commissioner Hern Jarl, the head of the police force took action to barricade the police HQ, where the military met it's first actual opposition. This was the point where the first gunshots were heard, and panic began to spread more rapidly. News was spread from the headquarters and other police centres began to prepare or oppose the oncoming military presence. At the coast, heavily aromoured police officers grouped and stormed the port where military vessels were beginning to set off. The clash here was short, and halved the attacking police force, however one of the 4 military ships (a destroyer) was taken over and barricaded. In most other areas however, the police forces surrendered, or came out in support of the military movements. By the end of the day, most of the major cities were under military control, with only a few areas standing against the might of the ground forces. At 10PM of the same day Dirk Gràhem appeared universally on national television and radio stations announcing the military takeover of the Republic and the installation of himself as Commander General. At this point, citizen panic exploded, and the national stockmarkets collapsed. The Republic of The Cloud Peoples was under military control. Around half an hour later, the Commander General issued a statement to world leaders: Our Republic has made certain changes. Changes with some may not agree with, but such changes involve our nation, and our nation only. Our leader was weak, our goals were lacking. We were a strong nation, and a strong nation is what we need to become again. As of today, for an undefined time, our borders will be closed to all, be it our citizens, or foreigners. We ask that no other nation get involved in our affairs, and that any involvement that breaches our sovereignty, or national land, sea, or airspace, will be treated as an act of war. |

"I cannot say that I agree with the Commander General's actions, nor can I condone them. I led a revolt against the monarchy in Adamenia in order to give my fellow citizens the freedoms and rights they deserve; however, I don't see a reasonable motive for this coup. That being said, Adamenia will still respect the wishes of not interfering, for we had just recovered from the civil war several months ago. We can't afford to deal with another war," Prime Minister William Johnson said to the news outlet in Cariaz after hearing about the military coup. |

The Empire is closely monitoring the situation in The Cloud Republic, reports the local news agencies; back in the Prime Minister's residence sits his excellency, the very man in control of the nation. In his left hand is the morning newspaper with the headline, "POSSIBLE MILITARY COUP IN CLOUD REP. UNCONFIRMED" and a brewed cup of black coffee in the other. "This should be interesting" he says in his language. After reading it for a brief moment, he sets it down. The Prime Minister's mind wanders back to the lady outside his window, and his eyes inadvertently looks outside, simply observing her in silence, the carefree attitude she displays might save her someday... Maybe. He sips his coffee. |
